Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.
This purpose is accomplished by such efforts as:
providing an enriched and accelerated educational program;
promoting schoolwide reform through schoolwide programs or through additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time;
significantly upgrading the quality of instruction by providing staff in participating schools with substantial opportunities for professional development; and
affording parents meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at home and at school.
Note: As a reminder, all federal funds are considered supplemental and should not be incorporated into school budgeting plans. These funds are subject to state approval, and access may fluctuate based on decisions made through state and federal oversight.

Alternative Household Income Information
The state department uses PowerSchool data for funding determinations, so it is VERY IMPORTANT that schools ensure students are coded correctly in PowerSchool, including free/reduced, direct certification, homeless*, foster care*, MLs, migrants, etc.
*ALL foster care and homeless students should automatically be coded as FREE.
For schools participating in the National School Lunch Program:
Give all families an opportunity to complete the free/reduced lunch form.
Students should be coded as either free, reduced, or paid based on the free/reduced lunch form.
Students identified as direct certification should be coded as FDC (free direct
certification).
For schools NOT participating in the National School Lunch Program:
Give all families an opportunity to complete the Alternative Household Income form.
Students should be coded as either free, reduced, or paid based on the Alternative Household Income form.
For CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) Schools:
▪ CEP schools should code students as either FDC (free direct certification) or PAID.
▪ Students identified as direct certification should be coded as FDC.
